Cricket History Beckons: In the third and final ODI between India and Sri Lanka, Rohit Sharma has the opportunity to surpass the record held by the Universe Boss, Chris Gayle.
The third and final ODI of the series between India and Sri Lanka is scheduled for August 7. After the first match ended in a draw, Sri Lankan bowlers delivered an outstanding performance in the second match, securing a win for their team. The home team now leads the series 1-0. The Indian team aims to win the third match to level the series. In this match, Rohit Sharma will also be eyeing the significant record held by ‘Universe Boss’ Chris Gayle.
One of the most explosive batsmen in cricket, former West Indies star Chris Gayle holds the record for the most sixes in ODI cricket. Gayle played his last ODI on August 14, 2019, and is currently second on the list of most sixes in ODIs. Now, Rohit Sharma is on the brink of breaking this record. Rohit is just two sixes away from surpassing Gayle, who has 331 sixes in ODIs. With 330 sixes to his name, Rohit needs just two more in the third ODI against Sri Lanka to overtake Gayle and become the player with the second-most sixes in ODIs.
Former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi holds the record for the most sixes in ODI cricket, having hit 351 sixes in 398 matches. Alongside him, Chris Gayle and Rohit Sharma are prominent figures on this list, with Sri Lankan legend Sanath Jayasuriya, who has hit 270 sixes, also featured. MS Dhoni occupies the fifth position with 229 sixes in his ODI career.
